The Hoofers Alpine Ski and Snowboard Team is a group of UW students who compete in the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA).
This is a downhill race team; however, many of our members had never raced before joining. Our wide range of skiing and snowboarding abilities creates a unique dynamic and fosters an awesome time on and off the hill. We host drylands practices Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fall semester along with many social events. This fall semester we are having a fall formal, team bonfires at picnic point, an Alpine vs. Nordic ultimate frisbee game, an ice skating event, and many more spontaneous gatherings along the way. We race six weekends all over the Midwest during the second semester, beginning the first weekend in January and going through mid-February. Hopefully our boys and girls teams will qualify for nationals again this year, which is held in the beginning of March. At a typical race, we compete against other colleges in the Midwest, including the University of Minnesota, Marquette University, Michigan State, Iowa State, and many more. This team is a great way to not only meet 50-60 other kids on the UW-Madison campus, but to also meet racers on other college teams.
